  • 3¼ cups plain flour
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ½ cup lard or butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 5¼ oz dried figs, chopped
  • 3½ oz walnuts, chopped
  • ½ cup raisins
  • 2⅛ oz dark chocolate, chopped
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp vino cotto or grape must syrup

Instructions

    Rub the fat into the flour with the sugar and baking powder, then bring together with the eggs. Rest the pastry 30 minutes.

    Mix the figs, walnuts, raisins, chocolate, zest, cinnamon and vino cotto into a thick filling.

    Roll the pastry to ⅛ inch and cut discs about 3½ inches across.

    Spoon filling onto each, fold over and seal the edges well.

    Bake at 355°F for 20–25 minutes until pale gold.

    Cool and dust with sugar.
